Opening of a kiln is always and interesting experience..have glazes worked or not, are the pieces still in one piece or has the porcelain slumped?!
On this occassion one new glaze had worked, the other……yuk! Quite a pleasing selection of work came out, but I think I may be overloading the paper thin porcelain a little too much as another piece has come out fractured.
I also tried silica sand for the first time, to support my pieces, this seems to have worked, however I can’t say the same for the unglazed terracotta pots I used to hold the sand in, they slumped and stuck to the kiln shelf beautifully!! Nothing beats making your own, so that will be my next task before I can do another 1260C firing.
